Alexandra Pavel

Holá compañeros, me llamo es Alexandra Pavel. Soy un sophomore con biología major y español minor originalmente de Rumania. En Divisadero escribo sobre la injusticia hacia los trabajadores indocumentados agrícolas durante tiempo de crisis como los incendios. Espero que usted espera a leer sobre mi piesa:) 

Judith Morales

Judith Morales is a graduating senior at the University of San Francisco majoring in Spanish. She is a first-generation student from the San Diego area who loves coffee more than life itself. As a first-generation Mexican-American, she has pushed herself to continue her education in the hopes of becoming the first doctor in her family. After graduating she plans to take a year off and take a Post- Baccalaureate program that focuses on the sciences, and after the year she plans to apply for medical school. She is passionate about female health and spreading the knowledge to her community about the importance of sexual education and female empowerment. In Divisadero, her first article is about the false promises that USF makes to its low-income students and how they see themselves affected. And her second article covers the importance of the informal sector in San Francisco.

Zoë Hallmen

"Zoë Hallmen is currently a Junior at the University of San Francisco majoring in Spanish with a minor in Jewish Studies and Social Justice. She is originally from Baltimore, Maryland who likes to make a dozen Tik Toks a day and loves making her friends and family laugh until the end of time. Coming from a city where a lot of injustices occur against people of color, she has pushed herself to continue her education in the hopes of becoming a lawyer. She plans on attending law school after graduating from undergrad and plans to focus her concentration on Litigation and Immigration Law. In Divisadero, her first article is about the Gender Pay Gap between women of color and her second article is about the discrimination and the egoism of American society."

Krys Chau

Hola! Mi nombre es Krys Chau y soy un junior aquí en la Universidad de San Francisco. Mis especialidades son Psicología y Español y originalmente soy de Los Ángeles, California. Krys es muy apasionado en sacar a la luz las experiencias y los dificultades de sus comunidades Latinx y Asíatico Americano. En esta revista, Krys intenta sacar a luz las personas cuyos presencia en la comunidad Latinx son pasados por alto. Su primera pieza es una novela gráfica que cuenta la historia de un estudiante Latinx aquí en USF y cómo el aumento de matrícula le afecta. Su segunda pieza es un artículo sobre la economía informal y los negocios pequeños específicamente cómo son afectados por el COVID-19 pandemia.

Melissa Navas

Melissa Navas is a junior at the University of San Francisco and is majoring in Latin American Studies with a minor in Legal Studies. She is a first-generation student from East Palo Alto, California and loves spending her time cuddling with her cat. She is focused on bringing attention to displacement that is being caused by gentrification and how low-income areas are not prepared for it. Her first piece is about the experience of gentrification in East Palo Alto and how it has hurt family members and others. Her second piece being on domestic workers and how it has impacted her on a personal level.

Aileen Becerra

Aileen es una estudiante de tercer año y su especialización es en Estudios Latinoamericanos. Mexica y residente de el Área de la Bahía. Aileen escribió acerca de la organización Mujeres Unidas y Activas y el impacto que ellas han tenido en las mujeres inmigrantes del Área de la Bahía. Su segunda pieza trata sobre los diferentes retos que los trabajadores inmigrantes de la industria de comida rápida tienen que enfrentar durante la pandemia COVID-19. Ella espera que todos disfruten sus artículos!

Emely Rico Garcia

Emely Rico García es una estudiante de primer año en la Universidad de San Francisco. Ella estudia y se enfoca en la especialidad de psicología con un minor en español. Siendo estadounidense de primera generación, ella describe las diferencias transgeneracionales de estatus migratorio y como el sacrificio de sus padres motiva el estudio universitario. También se enfoca en las injusticias financieras contra los inmigrantes en tiempos de vulnerabilidad global.

Alecsander Zapata

Hola lectores, me llamo Alecsander Zapata. Estoy estudiando ambos inglés y español, buscando avenidas de expresar verdades complejas a través de escritura. Como peruano-americano, mis obras en español reflejan mis experiencias birraciales y biculturales. En literatura, nada es simple, nada es fácil, y como dijo Roland Barthes, es la pregunta menos la respuesta.

Karina Hodoyan

La Profe Karina Hodoyan received a PhD from the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at Stanford University and is the Director of the Masters in Migration Studies Program at USF. Her fields of interest are Mexican, US-Mexico Border and Chicanx Literary and Cultural Studies; Migration Studies; Gender and Sexuality Studies. She has led many student writers through different iterations of the Divisadero Journal but is particularly proud of this group who not only pulled successfully through all the course changes due to COVID-19 but also wrote about it!
