Each year, the USF Center for Asia Pacific Studies provides financial support for students in the MA in Asia Pacific Studies (MAPS) to further their studies at USF, via study or internships abroad.
Award
On average, awards range from $1000-$5000.
Fellowships
- Center for Asia Pacific Studies Fellowship
Awarded to a student who exemplifies the Center's mission of bridging cultures and promoting cross-cultural understanding and academic excellence inside and outside the classroom.
- Dr. Barbara K. Bundy Asia Pacific Fellowship
This endowed fund was established in 1998 with a gift from Rev. Seiyu Kiriyama in Dr. Barbara K. Bundy's honor. Since that time the Center has continued to raise funds (from MAPS alumni as well as other individuals) in our founding director’s honor to support the MA in Asia Pacific Studies program in the form of an annual scholarship.
- Giurlani Fellowship
The Louis and Yolanda Giurani Scholarship Endowment was established in 1998 in memory of Fr. Edward J. Malatesta, SJ. The selection of recipients is based on financial need, scholastic ability, and at least one year's work experience in business.
- Imamura Fellowship
Established in 2009 with an initial gift by Isako Imamura in memory of Shigeo Imamura, former faculty member and founder of the English as a Second Language program at USF, this fellowship is awarded to students who have exhibited scholastic ability and an interest in studying Japan and/or promoting international and cross-cultural understanding.
Eligibility
Applicants must be incoming 2nd year students in the MA in Asia Pacific Studies program holding a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Summer Stipend
In 2019, the USF Center for Asia Pacific Studies launched its summer stipend program. For the inaugural year, the center selected one USF graduate student to participate in the International Summer Program at Sogang University in Korea.
