Samantha BishopSamantha Bishop is a senior at USF with a major in International Studies- Environment & Development and a minor in Latin American Studies. She is from San Diego and has an avid love for the outdoors and the ocean. Sami has interned at the Pachamama Alliance and the Surfrider Foundation where she has found a passion for international nonprofit work and environmental protection. She hopes to continue this work in her future travels.


Karen Cerda SeguraKaren Cerda-Segura es un senior en la Universidad de San Francisco con Especialidad Académica Principal en Sociología con concentración en Criminología, Leyes, y Sociedad. Sus sub Especialidades Académicas incluyen: Estudios Legales, Estudios en Niños y Jóvenes, y Estudios Latinoamericanos. Siendo originaria de la ciudad de México, una de sus más grandes pasiones es la degustación de la comida tradicional mexicana en todas sus variantes. Ella piensa que existe una relación muy estrecha entre la alimentación y la personalidad de un individuo o un grupo étnico.

Después de comer unos ricos tacos, sus pasatiempos favoritos son jugar fútbol y baloncesto, seguido se le puede ver mejorando sus habilidades en las canchas de la escuela. En un futuro cercano le gustaría obtener una maestría en Administración Deportiva y por qué no… trabajar para un equipo profesional en cualquiera de estos deportes.


Kristi DemarKristi DeMar is a graduating Senior majoring in Spanish Studies and Minoring in Biology. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, she is a lover of language, food, travel, and animals. She lived in Quito, Ecuador for a semester where she taught English at Yachay Wasi Elementary School and volunteered in a bilingual elementary school in the Mission District. Currently, she works in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and over summer, works at a camp for kids. In the future, she plans to pursue a Master’s in elementary education, with dreams of teaching bilingual education locally and internationally.

A feminist and an activist for equal rights, she is thrilled to be writing about Multicultural Admissions and injustices done to the multicultural students on USF’s campus.


Ana GuerreroAna Guerrero is a senior Sociology: feminism, gender, and sexuality major with a minor in Latin American Studies. She transferred to the University of San Francisco from the University of California at Riverside in Fall of 2014. She is currently a Democracy Coach for Generation Citizen, and she is working with 7th Graders at Francisco Middle School. Ana will be taking a year off from school to work, and then she is planning to return to school to get her masters degree. Her dream is to one day get her Ph.D and join academia so she can do her own research. She is engaged to her best friend Ray Camarena, and they have a baby boy named Iker Santiago together. Both are the reason she is trying harder than ever to finish school and form a better life together. In her free time she likes to read, listen to music, and spend time with her family.


Mackayme GuitierrezMackayme Gutierrez is a sophomore at USF double majoring Media Studies and Advertising with a minor in Spanish. She is from Los Angeles and loves to travel. She currently works as a student assistant at the Career Services Center and as a Community Assistant in Hayes-Healy. Mackayme loves to travel and has been to Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Canada, Mexico and she will be traveling Cambodia for two weeks at the end of May. She is passionate about technology, the arts, education, and continues to work within each industry.


Uma JoshiUma Joshi is a senior Politics Major, Spanish Minor. She is from San Diego, CA and has greatly enjoyed her time here at USF. She has been involved with several clubs on campus, was an orientation leader for two years and has interned for nonprofit immigration reform organizations. She is currently working as a Peer Advisor for Student Leadership and Engagement. In her free time, Uma enjoys reading, listening to music and playing the piano. She also loves to travel while visiting her family in India and the Dominican Republic, and also studied abroad for a semester in Madrid, Spain. After graduation, she will begin applying to graduate school for a Masters in Education in order to become a high school teacher. Uma will be writing two pieces on diversity at USF, one about Conservative Students and the other about Students with Disabilities.


Maya BarbaOriginally from San Diego, Maya Barba was drawn to San Francisco by the progressive and passionate political and social culture. She is in her senior year at the University of San Francisco, with a major in International Economics and with a minor in Latin American Development. Maya has interned with Women Donors Network, FWD.us and the Border Philanthropy Partnership, where she gained experience in research, nonprofit administration and social media management. Her international travel and political advocacy work have made her deeply passionate about immigration reform, environmentally sustainable energy practices, gender equality and global empowerment of women.


Sofia MarbachSofia Marbach is a Senior majoring in International and Latin American Studies with a concentration in Environment & Development. She has always loved writing and is excited to be addressing race in the primary elections and the role of government in public art for Divisadero. She is passionate about the intersectionality of social and environmental justice and looks forward to expanding these connections in her career ahead.


Eteya TrinidadEteya Trinidad is a sophomore Critical Diversity Studies major with a concentration in Gender and Sexuality, and minors in Spanish, Mathematics and Theater Tech and Design. For its 152nd season this year, she is the Production Manager for ASUSF College Players, a student-run theater company on campus. In her ideal future, Eteya wants to design lights for small theater companies dedicated to social justice.Originally from Humboldt County, California, she is excited to be in San Francisco and writing for the Divisadero Journal. She fell back in love with her childhood passion for writing after working on a translation project with Professor Hodoyan last semester, Nuestros Cuerpos, Nuestras Almas, a compilation of personal poems and short stories from Latina transgender women. Eteya is grateful to be showcasing Latinx voices on campus via a photo essay in her first piece and sharing her personal journey with the multiracial identity via podcast in her second piece.


Catalina CastroCatalina Castro is a senior Design major and Latin American Studies minor at USF. She is a graphic designer and artist originally from Los Angeles, CA. As a first generation Chicana, the Latino culture is a huge inspiration and motivator for her and it is something she strives to represent through her work, which is seen through her piece Black and Brown Solidarity in this year’s journal. It plays a big role in her passion for social and economic justice. Castro’s ultimate goal is to blend the two worlds of design and activism in an effort to create a more just community. Graphic design is Castro’s strong suit, and while she focuses on print media, she also has experience in web design, digital photography, and fine art. Castro also designed the print piece for the Spring 2016 issue.


Karen SantanaKaren Santana is a sophomore at the University of San Francisco who is from San Jose California. She is currently undeclared, but is thinking about education because of her love for kids. She's going to minor in Spanish.
